The Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community is situated just outside the municipality of Maniwaki. Covering 18,437 hectares, the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation Territory is the largest Algonquin Nation in Canada, in both area and population with almost 2,600 community members. Located approximately 130 km north of Gatineau/Ottawa, (Hwy's 117 or 107 if coming from Montreal or Val d'Or).
Many services and programs are available to the community members, including: a elementary and secondary school, a day-care, a community hall, a community radio, a health centre, a police department, a youth centre, etc.
The community has a number of venues for visitors. The Kitigan Zibi Pow Wow is held annually, on the first weekend of June. The Kitigan Zibi Cultural Center has a number of exhibits, cultural artifacts, paintings and photographs relating to the Algonquin culture and history. Kitigan Zibi is also the home of Awazibi Pure Maple Syrup.
Many other ameneties are available to visitors, such as gas, car wash, laudromat, grocery stores and various other souvenirs and gift shops found at various locations throughout the community.
